Organized Religion Excludes People

As I am reading “The New Revelations: A Conversation with God” I just keepThe New Relevations thinking that this book is quite powerful. One of the main premises of the book is how organized religion has taught us as followers that god wants us to behave a certain way, or to treat others a certain way, or to wear certain clothes. I think we’re in a time in our culture that demands we look at our religious and political systems and see if they are working for our modern culture. I do not believe that GOD/The Universe/ Buddha/Ali/Energy (whatever you believe in) would ask that we exclude someone because of their beliefs. I do not believe that “The source” would encourage us to kill for him. I do not believe that a war based on religious convictions would be a great afternoon event for GOD. What I DO believe, is that god is pure love, life affirming, ever expanding, and compassionate. I believe religious leaders have told their followers of an angry god in order to control them. I also believe that for people to give so much reverence to an ancient text, and close their mind off to new spiritual revelations, is very sad. People think that if it’s new, it can’t be right. WHY?!?! We didn’t have cars 100 years ago, and look how far we’ve advanced as a culture in 100 years!! Organized Religion worked when our world was not interconnected, it doesn’t now because it excludes people. What if our religions taught their followers to include, to be open minded, to

Judge Not Lest Ye Be Judged!
and
Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone!

It amazes me how certain fundamentalists can be choosy about what scripture they follow and ones they are vehement in following. Can’t we all just get a long?

  1. Very well said. Without embracing the “new” we would not have our computers enabling us to find such diverse friends to blog with :) I have a T-shirt which says “Coexist” surrounded by the symbols for many different religious traditions. I like how the symbols blend and merge to represent all of us coexisting together.

  2. [...] is EXACTLY what I wrote about in another blog I wrote about how Religion Excludes people.  No one is more favored than anyone else. Why do some people think they are better?  We are all [...]
