I had a little epiphany today from this GREAT book I’m reading called “Loving What Is” by Byron Katie. If you’ve been reading my blog you realize I read a lot of spiritual books
and love to share what I’m learning. Well, every book that I’ve read talks about thought and how it relates to your life as a spiritual being. In “Loving What Is”, Bryon “Katie” says that thoughts just appear out of thin air. I just found the notion of that contrary to what I’ve been reading so much about lately, maybe it’s not but the way she explains it is incredible. She says that our thoughts just happen, and how we choose to react to those thoughts dictate our emotional well being.
For example, I wrote about “should” in one of my previous posts, so I’ll continue in that vain: “My lover should be more affectionate with me.”
- Is that statement true “That your lover should be more affectionate with you?” Does he ever show you affection? How was your partner when you first met? Was he affectionate then?
- Can you Absolutely know, without a doubt that this is true? He’s Never shown you affection? Ever? No….that’s not absolutely true.
- How does the thought “My lover should be more affectionate with me” make you feel? Does it make you lash out, cry, feel depressed, sad, closed off? or Does it make you feel good? Yes, it’s obvious, it doesn’t make you feel good.
- What kind of person would you be if you could NOT think that thought? How would you live your life if you let go of that thought? Imagine your life without the negativity?
- Turn the statement around: “I should be more affectionate with me” or “My lover shouldn’t be more affectionate with me” or “I should be more affectionate with my lover” Which one of these statements is more true to you? Which one feels better?
This is what this book is about.
Investigating your thoughts, or the stories you create for situations in your life. “Katie” calls this THE WORK. I went to her website and watched a few of her videos she has of her doing “the Work” with different audience members. OMG, I balled like a baby. I mean, I had NO idea there was that much emotion bottled up inside. This is a real life, simple way to reduce stress and life a more peaceful life. You can use this way of thinking or “inquiring” as she puts it, to use immediately. I URGE all of you to read this book. I just briefly touched on the process, but it’s remarkable!

Ha! interesting…..It is more about how we react upon thoughts…I like that cause it is not just about denying negative thoughts it is about dealing with them…

I wasn’t sure I understood what she was talking about, so I watched about four of her videos… WOW!! Very powerful! Puts so much into perspective! Really empowering and takes the victim mentality and throws it out the window! Thank you for sharing.
